Disclaimer: Our 20,000-rep count is definitely not a typical training schedule for most. Your individual mileage may vary. While the Mantis TitanX is an amazing training tool for both new and experienced shooters, a complete beginner might not see results overnight. Like any high-quality equipment or training device, it requires commitment. Our goal of hitting high rep counts during the testing period was solely to ensure we put it through it’s paces and could speak to the durability and reliability.

Pros
- Built-in MantisX Sensor: The integrated sensor pairs with the free Mantis app for instant, actionable feedback on every rep. It unlocks multiple courses and acts as your personal 24/7 shooting coach.
- Exclusive TitanX Drills, such as the Holster Draw Analysis and Multi-Shot Draw Analysis, provide data-driven insights into what stages of a holster draw can be improved.
- Ammo Savings: Perform thousands of high-quality reps at home and save significant money on ammunition. The Mantis TitanX pays for itself quickly.
- Exceptional Value: At just $199, it’s an incredibly affordable way to integrate laser dry fire that is data-driven.
- Optic Ready: Built for the modern shooter, it’s optic ready right out of the box, compatible with popular RMR, Shield RMS, and RMSc footprints.
- The rechargeable battery lasts long and charges easily via USB-C in the slide. An auto shut-off feature prevents battery drain if you accidentally leave the unit on.
- Realistic Trigger Reset with a 4lb trigger pull for building muscle memory and a clean break with a realistic wall.
- 2 Weighted Mags designed for demanding reload drills. Since they have no electronics, you can use and abuse them during high-rep training without concern. We’re still waiting on confirmation about if Mantis will sell replacement magazines. You can also use compatible Glock magazines and weighted inserts.
- Ergonomic Adaptability: The reversible magazine catch quickly customizes the TitanX for left-handed shooters. We are currently researching compatibility with aftermarket parts.
Considerations
While the Mantis TitanX training pistol is a phenomenal tool for dry-fire practice, here are a few honest trade-offs to keep in mind, particularly for those performing high-volume or professional training.
- The Holster Draw Analysis is a powerful feature, but during our initial stress testing, we noticed a few false positives during the draw. EDIT: 11/12 – The day of the TitanX release their support team got back to me and stated that this issue was fixed in the production models of the TitanX.
- The magazines are robust, but after hundreds of deliberate drops onto concrete and carpet-over-concrete surfaces, we eventually were able to pop both baseplates open. The good news is they snap right back together instantly. This is an easily preventable scenario: if you plan on performing similarly rigorous drops, a simple rubber bumper on the baseplate provides all the necessary reinforcement to keep them rock-solid.
- Fixed Slide Design: The TitanX features a fixed slide. This means slide manipulations can’t be trained. This design choice ensures focus and attention on the most critical skills like trigger pull, sight picture, and grip stability. For practicing slide manipulations, you can easily and safely transition to your actual firearm (with a verified clear chamber, of course).
- The TitanX features solid black fixed iron sights, a likely intentional design choice. This configuration optimizes the TitanX for shooters who plan to immediately transition to a red dot optic. The fixed nature of the sights means they are not compatible with aftermarket Glock iron sights for customization.

Who is the Mantis TitanX For?
The TitanX delivers a universal solution for anyone seeking firearms proficiency, regardless of skill level. It pairs with your skill level to drive improvement through every phase of your development.
For the Foundational Shooter (Beginners and Novices)
The TitanX is the safest entry point into firearms handling. Its absolute inability to chamber or fire a live round removes all risk, allowing new users to focus entirely on building core fundamentals like proper grip, stance, sight alignment, and a perfect trigger press. This deliberate, safe repetition is the bedrock of proficiency.
For the Developing Shooter (Intermediate Users)
If you’ve hit a skill plateau, improvement demands objective data. The integrated MantisX sensor becomes essential here, transforming every dry-fire rep into a diagnostic session. The intermediate shooter can move beyond simple repetition, dive into structured drills, and receive immediate, actionable feedback necessary to break through sticking points and solidify advanced skills.
For the Apex Shooter (Experts and Professionals)
For the highest-level shooter, the TitanX is an essential tool for maximizing dry-fire efficiency. It allows professionals to engage in thousands of high-quality, measured repetitions at home to maintain and hone muscle memory and master new techniques. This sustains a peak level of readiness without the prohibitive cost and time sink of constant live-fire range sessions.
Breakdown
We felt a rush when we received Mantis’s email confirmation that they had selected us to test and review the TitanX. It was genuinely exciting, like Christmas had come early. We had been waiting for more news about the TitanX all year since ShotShow. We eagerly followed the tracking link, checking for daily updates as the package got closer. The moment the delivery notification hit, we wasted no time getting the package. We quickly opened the outer box to get to the main event: the Mantis TitanX, perfectly nested in its high-quality, zippered case. The packaging and custom foam insert set it apart as a premium piece of equipment.
The goal of this review was to put in as many dry fire reps as possible in the 2 week period of time before release. We acknowledge this amount of reps is not typical of a 2 week period. However, we wanted to simulate as much usage as possible. Assuming an average of 100 dry fire reps a day, 20,000 reps would be 200 straight days of dry fire.
What is the Mantis TitanX?
The TitanX is a self-contained training pistol designed to enhance your laser dry fire practice. It simulates the feel and balance of a Glock 45, which combines a full-sized frame with a compact slide. Mantis named this the 702 Model. Based on that we believe there will be different models available of other popular pistols. Having a training pistol with a laser built in is not even the best feature. The TitanX has the Mantis Sensor onboard. It gives you shot by shot feedback. You can learn what to improve in your grip, trigger pull, and form while shooting.
The TitanX is perfect for beginners because of how safe it is. There is no way it could fire a projectile as it doesn’t have a barrel, chamber or functional slide. Everyone should exercise extreme caution when doing dry fire training. Keep all ammo in a separate room. Ensure no additional firearms are brought to the room while using the TitanX to ensure complete safety. Always follow the firearm safety rules to instill good habits.
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Always assume a gun is loaded, even if you believe it is empty.
- Keep your finger off the trigger. Your finger should be outside the trigger guard and straight until you are ready to shoot.
- Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Never point a firearm at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
- Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Mantis TitanX First Impressions
- The laser came dialed in perfectly. We didn’t need to adjust it in the slightest, but it’s nice to know that the laser is adjustable.
- The weight comes primarily from the magazines. Unloaded the pistol is very lightweight. Actual weights are listed in the specs section.
- The trigger is crisp and breaks clean, but it is lighter than a stock Glock trigger. Which we believe is intentional. The TitanX trigger feels like a “performance trigger”. The trigger weight details are in the specs section below.
- Connecting it to the MantisX App was quick and easy. Power it on, open the app and hit connect. Then leave it still while it calibrates for 5 seconds and you are ready to go.
- Battery life is great, it came charged and ready to use for multiple days before needing a charge.
Physical Features, Specs & Price
The Mantis TitanX features a red laser that fires when the trigger is pulled, a self resetting trigger, and 2 weighted mags so you can practice reloads. The battery and Mantisx sensor is in the slide of the gun so the mags have nothing to do with the electronics. We love this aspect because dropping the mags is needed for reloads and it would be worrisome to drop them if they had batteries or sensors in them.

| Spec | Mantis TitanX | Glock 45 |
| Weight without Magazine | 8.4 oz | 21.73 oz |
| Weight w/ loaded Magazine | 17.4 oz | 30.34 oz |
| Magazine weight | 9.4 oz | 8.61 oz |
| Trigger Pull | 4 lbs. Performance Trigger | 5.8 lbs. Stock Trigger |
The TitanX features a highly realistic 4lb trigger pull, specifically engineered to mimic the feel of a Glock Performance Trigger. This accurate weight aids in developing proper trigger control and muscle memory that translates to live fire. For enhanced realism, the TitanX is also equipped with a functioning Glock-style built-in trigger safety, ensuring a more authentic manipulation experience during dry fire practice. After 20,000 dry fire reps the trigger still weighs in at 4lbs and performs how it did out of the box. There has been no sign of wear on the function of it.
Optic Options
The TitanX is RMR, RMS, and RMSc Optic-Ready. It does not have recoil lugs to allow for maximum optic compatibility. There is no recoil with the TitanX so mounting does not require the lugs. The optic mounting screws do not need to be torqued to spec or held in place with thread locker. Just ensure they are snug and not exceeding the maximum depth of 4mm. Had the Mantis TitanX not been Optic ready using something like an Optic Adapter would have been needed.

TitanX Price
The TitanX will be retailing at $199. This makes it the most affordable option for Laser Dry fire with a self resetting trigger. Most other options that include both a laser and a resetting trigger start at $300. Additionally, some require that you already own a firearm, which is another expense. Starting dry firing with laser feedback and the Mantis coaching system for only $199 changes the game.

Apps & Experience
Being hands on with the TitanX has been a great experience. We didn’t just casually test the TitanX. Our original goal was 10,000 dry-fire reps, a target we quickly blew past. To provide the most comprehensive, long-term review possible, we pushed the TitanX to its limits. We logged over 20,000 total dry-fire repetitions before finalizing this article. The 20,000 dry fire reps are not part of our typical training regimen. We wanted to instill confidence in its durability and performance under high-volume stress. Our dry fire reps were an almost even 60/40 split between the MantisX and Laser Academy apps. It’s really hard to pick which one is our favorite.
The Dual-App Advantage
The TitanX unlocks the powerful, dual-app training ecosystem made by Mantis which includes MantisX and Laser Academy. Both are available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Some other 3rd party stores have them as well. Check your device compatibility HERE – Mantis Apps
The MantisX app acts as your professional coach, providing instant, data-rich feedback on shot mechanics, exciting drills, and structured training courses that allow you to track long-term progress and earn achievements and patches. By owning the TitanX you gain full access to the MantisX app content.

Mantis Laser Academy
Meanwhile, Laser Academy offers a highly engaging, gamified training environment that rewards you keeping a training streak. This gamification makes high-volume repetition feel less like work, it feels more like play. This ensures you stay motivated, consistent, and engaged with your dry-fire practice. The Laser Academy does have a free section, but to gain full access to it, you’ll need to buy a kit or an access code for $49.

The combination of serious, data-driven analysis (MantisX) and pure enjoyment (Laser Academy) makes the TitanX the most versatile training tool available. Check out or blog post about it HERE.
The Training Coach
The MantisX app pushed us to train things that we haven’t focused on in previous training sessions. One of the benefits of the MantisX and Laser Academy apps is their ability to push you out of your comfort zone and into areas of training you often neglect. We had never dedicated serious time to training support hand until we used the MantisX app and naturally integrated it into our drills. The seamless option within both apps to start a drill as “Left” or “Right” makes it easy. As a result, we’ve never felt more comfortable using support hand in drills and live fire. The platform encourages embracing challenges, like the recent Daily Challenges that had us performing blindfolded reloads. Mantis pushes you to train skills like support-hand reloads and one handed reloads. These things are often afterthoughts in traditional practice, but the daily challenges makes them essential and an incredibly fun part of your daily routine.
Stepping Up to the Optic Standard
Upon crossing the 10,000-rep mark with iron sights, we decided to elevate the training with a red dot, picking up a reliable, used Sig Romeo Zero to mount on the TitanX. This transition was a revelation. If the TitanX is excellent for building iron sight fundamentals, it is absolutely peerless for mastering the red dot sight (RDS). Acquiring the sight picture—finding the dot quickly and consistently within the window—was perfectly natural, a testament to the repetitive, flawless presentation mechanics we had already established. For anyone new to pistol optics, the TitanX provides a low-pressure, high-feedback environment to learn this critical skill before ever stepping foot on a live range.
This move proved incredibly beneficial, as the Glock 17 we eventually rented for our live-fire confirmation also came equipped with an optic. Red dot sights are rapidly becoming the undisputed standard of pistol shooting in 2025, with more and more handgun models shipping from the factory optic-ready. The TitanX ensures you are not just keeping up with this trend, but getting ahead of it, allowing you to train the most current shooting methods.
Instant Results for a New Shooter
Nothing demonstrated the effectiveness of the TitanX more than seeing a complete beginner use it. We had an individual with virtually no firearm experience try it out, and the results were staggering. In just five minutes, their accuracy transformed: they went from missing the target entirely to consistently hitting center mass. The combination of the laser showing the immediate point of impact, alongside the TitanX sensor giving real-time feedback on specific mechanics like optimal trigger finger placement and grip stability allowed for instant corrections. This unique feedback loop proves the TitanX is not just a practice tool; it’s an accelerated learning system that builds confidence and proper form faster than any traditional method.
Magazine Durability
The magazines are heavy duty and built well, but after a while we were able to pop both mags open by dropping them during reloads. We dropped them onto concrete floors and floors that are carpeted with concrete underneath. They go right back together so it’s not a big deal, we plan on JB welding these so they stop popping apart every 3rd time they get dropped. After getting them JB welded we’ll invest in some rubber base plate bumpers like these Jentra Glock Rubber Magazine Bumpers. This is what the insides look like.

Customizations
The TitanX readily accepts a weapon-mounted light and accommodates extended magazines, which is great for users who want to train with the same setup as their actual carry or competition setup. During testing we noticed that Glock magazines dropped freely and reliably upon activation of the magazine release, the Magpul GLock PMAG magazines did not seem to drop freely, even when fully loaded, requiring manual stripping for a reload.

Additional Features of the Mantis TitanX
Beyond the documented features, the TitanX offers other well thought out benefits. We found the integrated MantisX sensor has a 30-minute automatic shutoff after no activity. This is great for battery life if you forget to power it down. Additionally, the TitanX’s red laser is universally compatible with other laser dry fire systems. You can integrate it with any laser dry-fire target system or camera app that is designed to register a red laser impact. This vastly expands your training options beyond the Mantis apps. We tried the TitanX with our DryFireOnline projector set up and it worked perfectly. Stay tuned for another article all about Projector based dry fire setups. In the meantime, check out DryFireOnline that has both FREE and paid subscriptions starting at $1.99 a month.
Battery Life
The battery life has been solid. It came fully charged and we used it for 5 days and it still had 25%. We did leave it on and inactive multiple times and the 30 minute time out would auto shut it down. It was charged back to 100% on day 5 only because we planned to use it a lot that day. It was then only fully charged one other time in the 2 week testing period. Based on this we assume it will go a week between charges or longer depending on dry fire schedule.
Translating to Live Fire
After twenty thousand dry-fire reps with the TitanX, the ultimate test was whether this practice would translate to live-fire. We went to a local gun range and rented a Glock 17. Unfortunately they didn’t have a G47 for a more accurate comparison. We put a string of 50 rounds into a single target pretty quickly. The results were pretty obvious. Despite it being a decade or more since handling a Glock, the transition felt completely natural. The muscle memory forged by the TitanX made the Glock 17 feel instantly familiar. The trigger and grip control developed through the dry fire sessions with the TitanX proved its worth. It translated into a smooth, consistent trigger press during live fire.

The results speak for themselves, a solid grouping encompassing nearly all fifty rounds. Only two shots strayed as “flyers,”. The consistency achieved with dry fire applied to the live fire as expected. This confirms the Mantis TitanX’s value. It’s not just a practice tool, but a true performance bridge. It allows you to build proficiency without ammunition, and then carry that directly to live-fire. It’s not a replacement for live fire, but a great way to train for those live fire courses.

Verdict on the Mantis TitanX
Consider the incredible value it brings. We’ve logged over 20,000 dry-fire shots, which, if converted to 9mm ammunition prices, would represent a cost of over $4,036.40. The TitanX delivers all the benefits of high-volume, measured practice for a fraction of the cost.
It’s a safe starting point for beginners, a diagnostic tool for intermediate shooters fighting a plateau, and an efficiency maximizing system for experts. We don’t just recommend the TitanX, we encourage you to take the leap and own the training system that will turn your dry-fire sessions into improved skills. Get the TitanX, and start pushing past your current limits today.

Afterword
Here is a list of gear used during this review and testing process. Not all items are shown in the photo. While not all of this is necessary for laser dry fire training, having some of this additional gear helps.

- Mantis BlackBeardX AR Trigger Reset and Laser System – we’ve had the BlackBeardX for over 2 years and it’s our favorite way to train with an AR that isn’t live fire at the range.
- POLE.CRAFT IWB Kydex Holster: Glock 19,19X, 25, 44, 45 – This is the holster we used for IWB draws and training for conceal carry. It does not come optic ready but a quick snip and dremel job fixes that.
- Wheeler Manual Trigger Pull Scale with 8oz to 8lb Value Range for Gunsmithing – this allowed us to test the trigger pull weight before and after the 20K dry fire reps. It’s been handy to test other triggers to see how they compare.
- 3 Pack – TRT Tap Rack Dry Fire Safety Training Aid 9MM/.40 Cal – these orange magazine inserts are helpful to put in the top of a fully loaded magazine so the ammo doesn’t bump in anything inside the TitanX slide.
- Streamlight 69260 TLR-1 HL 1000-Lumen 20000 Candela Rail-Mounted Tactical Weapon Light – we borrowed this off our main pistol setup to train with it on the Titan during some drills.
- RomeoZero Elite 1x24mm Red Dot – We bought a used Sig Romeo Zero for this review. It looks like most retailers have moved onto selling only the Elite or the Pro models.
- 64” Tripod for Cell Phone & Camera – We’ve had this tripod for over 2 years, it’s been our go to for all our laser dry fire training that relies on a phone to pickup the laser.
